From the Composer

This is an exploration of the lyrical and emotional capabilities of my favourite wind instrument. It is also a musical evocation of the recollection of a memorable visit to New Zealand's Waipoua State Forest, with its healing air, cool green light, delicate echoing sounds, and the overwhelming sight of Tāne-Mahuta, the giant kauri tree.

Work Review

William Dart, The Listener, 28 March 1998

"The most rewarding for me is (Farr's) forest portrait, Waipoua. Here is the same unforced lyricism that caught my attention in the slow movement of his string quartet Owhiro four years ago."
