Written at the request of American marimbist Andy Harnsberger, the virtuosic Tangaroa exploits a number of contemporary performance techniques, making it an exciting showcase work for advanced percussionists. The mighty Pacific Ocean is the inspiration for Tangaroa, which is named after Polynesian god of the sea. In its surging ebb and flow, the music evokes the ocean in its many moods – from the gentle rippling of calm, sparkling waters to the turmoil of a chaotic storm.
