Music for Solo Cello was composed for You Lee in appreciation of his performance of the parts for cello solo in Harris' opera Tanz der Schwane. The scordatura tuning of the instrument produces an augmented 6th chord from the open strings (B–F-sharp–D–G-sharp), the resonance of which dominates the sound of the work.
