Healing was composed in the spring and summer of 2021, a time full of promise for an end to the Covid-19 pandemic, but also of widespread fear about a rampant politicization of public health which impeded our reaching the full benefit of the massive vaccination efforts around the world. This was also a time when the accelerating catastrophic effects of climate change became an inescapable reality everywhere, a rude awakening of sorts, which further added to the human agony about our prospects as a species on this planet. While physical illness was the primary concern, a widespread mental illness, more difficult to detect directly, represented two even greater threats to the planet itself: inaction and resignation. This was the backdrop against which the composition of Healing took place. It was a seed planted on arid ground in order to sprout and eventually rejuvenate the very ground that gave life to it.
