Chéngchéng (cengceng) are the small hand cymbals used in some styles of Balinese Gamelan. They are played in fast interlocking hocket figurations and provide shimmering rhythmic patterns to the gamelan sound. The percussion parts in Chéngchéng are inspired by the rhythms and timbres of this technique.
