This set of four contrasting works, including three for cello duo and one for solo cello, exploits the wide registral and expressive qualities of the instrument to great effect. They also pay homage to senior New Zealand composers David Farquhar (1928-2007) and Douglas Lilburn (1915-2001) while showcasing the breadth of writing for cello in New Zealand. Martin Lodge is an Associate Prof. and Director of Composition at the Conservatorium of Music, University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand.
