1 Stradivariazioni by Stephan Prock

The second volume in the ‘University Edition: New Zealand Series', Stradivariazioni contains fascinating historical links to the famous instruments of the Italian violin maker Stradivari and to the tradition of variation as a form of music-writing in which the music is cast. This work reveals Prock's eclectic range of influences and demonstrates an intricate and beautiful sound world for which he writes "one that is created from meticulously crafted compositional devices, such as musical ciphers." Musicologists, composers and performers will all find enjoyment in studying and performing this work, which would suitably fit in any violin recital programme or as a featured work to study in music composition courses.
