K627 is subtitled "Concerto in F Major for Piano & Orchestra in the style of W.A.Mozart". The work began life as part of the music for a film in which one of the protagonists imagines a 35-year-old Mozart composing a new concerto for her. The work focuses extensively on Mozart's own sound, Hatzis' stated intention being to intuitively decipher the older 's working process and then apply it to the new work in ways that on occasion deviate from the harmonic and melodic vocabulary of the original. As the Mozart of the film is not a historical figure but a psychological projection by someone who loves his music, in this sense at least the music did not require historical authenticity beyond what would render it recognizable as something Mozart could have possibly written.
