Eternity's Heartbeat is the title of a song for soprano and piano which was composed for inclusion in Tongues of Fire, a percussion concerto commissioned by the Scotia Festival of Music for percussionists Beverley Johnston and Evelyn Glennie. After the completion of the work, Glennie commissioned for a number of versions of the song for various instrumental combinations (mostly marimba and piano) that she could play as encores after a performance of the concerto or in recital and this short work for solo marimba was written in response to her request.
Born in Greece, educated in the United States and a Canadian citizen since 1985, composer Christos Hatzis (b.1953) is becoming widely known as a leading figure in contemporary classical music. His works are performed and broadcast throughout the world, and their frequent combination of a powerful spiritual foundation with an immediately accessible appeal has made a deep emotional impact upon audiences and performers alike.
