Katy Abbott studied composition with Brenton Broadstock and Linda Kouvaras at the University of Melbourne, Australia and her work has been performed in both Australia and overseas. Abbott’s music draws on diverse influences. She has a talent for highlighting the musical and poignant moments in daily human life. Her compositions also explore the concept of home and a sense of place. Her substantial body of work includes orchestra, chamber and vocal pieces. Abbott has won several awards and spent time as Composer-in-Residence with Orchestras Australia, Sydney Youth Orchestra and University of Tasmania. Abbott lives in Melbourne, and holds an artist space at beautiful Abbotsford Convent, Victoria, Australia. As well as freelance composition, she teaches post-graduate composition at the University of Melbourne.
