Farr's Duggan Theme was written for the television police-drama series Duggan in which a Detective Inspector solved grisly murder cases, set against the scenic backdrop of New Zealand's Marlborough Sounds. Farr composed music for the two pilot episodes in 1997 and 1998, and the 11 one-hour episodes made subsequently.

The piece takes a simple ternary, beginning and ending in the Aeolian (or natural minor) mode, shifting through a variety of major keys in the B sections. Farr has used the sonically satisfying combination of flute and marimba in the past, particularly in one of his best known works, Kembang Suling (PE001). Duggan Theme also exists in a version for marimba only (as the second movement in Farr's Three Etudes (PE092), and as a duet for vibraphone and marimba.
