Gareth Farr Visits Turkey for World Premiere

Aug 5th, 2015

Gareth Farr is visiting Istanbul, Turkey this week for the world premiere of the Gallipoli Symphony. This new symphonic work traces the story of the 1915 campaign of WWI at what is now ANZAC Cove on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey.

Farr has co-written a section of this new symphonic work with Richard Nunns, titled He Poroporoaki or “saying good-bye”, which was first presented at the 2008 Dawn Service at Gallipoli. Farr’s work sits alongside works by 10 other composers from New Zealand, Australia and Turkey, each of which have been presented annually at the Dawn Service at Gallipoli since 2006, leading to the 100th anniversary this year, where they have been combined into this new, larger-scale symphonic work, Gallipoli Symphony. This performance featured New Zealand taonga puoro player, Hormona Horo (pictured above (right) with Gareth Farr (left)).
